Winter Candle Holder

Ice Candle Holder

Jack Hilton
Period B

Materials: Plastic cup, small tea light candle, string, tape, red berries.
Making the candle holder:

To start I used the plastic cup to help shape the ice so that it would stand evenly. I then tied a string around the wick of the candle and taped down each end of the string at opposite ends of the plastic cup. This way the candle would be held off the bottom of the cup, allowing water to fill in under the candle. I then added about twenty red berries to the bottom of the cup and filled the cup with cold water. I did not expect the berries to float to the top, but they did. I also did not expect the water to turn pink from the berries, but it did. Finally, I placed the cup in my freezer for 3 hours until it was frozen solid and I cut the plastic cup off of the outside of the ice, removed the string and tape, and lit the candle.

How it meets the criteria:

- The candle holder works.
- It holds a small candle safely.
- The candle holder is decorated with red berries.
- It is made out of ice.
- The flame is visible through the pink colored ice.
