A Chinese Robot Just Performed the First Fully Automated Dental Surgery Ever

Would you let a robot perform surgery in your mouth?
Both China and the United States have designed and begun to use robots to perform surgeries that are usually done by dentists. The first performance was done in China by a robot arm that implanted 2 3d printed teeth into a woman's mouth. This is hugely important for China, who has a shortage of dentists. About 400 million people per year are in need of dental implants in China, however, only about a million are performed. With this new technology, many more surgeries can be performed with high accuracy and precision.
Could this be the new trend for dentistry? It improves any human error that can occur during operation and dentists in the U.S. have commented on this new technology saying they are very excited to be able to improve the experience for their patients.

  1. Riley, great post. I recently had my wisdom teeth removed and wonder if the process could have been improved if done by a robot.
