Snowman Playing Hockey
Intro: On my days off from school on Thursday and Friday, I constructed a snowman with the 12+ inches of snow we were hit with. When we were assigned this project I was set on making a snowman as I had numerous times as a young child. Quite honestly I had absolutely no idea how I would detail the snowman or what accessories I would give it.
Construction:
I first began my process by gathering a large pile of snow. I did this by simply scooping piles of snow with a shovel. I then took this pile of snow and shaped it into a sphere shape, patting the snow together so it would stay intact. I then began with the "body" of the snowman by doing the same process of making a pile of snow. Only this time the pile was much smaller because to give the snowman a sturdy structure, it would need to be smaller than the base. Finally, I found a head shaped ball of snow that had been created from the plowing of the street, and simply placed this on the "body" of the snowman. This finished the snowman's main body. I then added the finishing touches, two "Y" shaped branches to be used as arms and a stick stuck through the snowman's head to the base to keep it all together.
Detail: I started with the idea of making a hockey player snowman with a jersey, skates, pads, etc. However, I could not find my old hockey gear so I improvised making the snowman a winter dressed person casually playing hockey. I gave the snowman googles for his head, a scarf, and a hat. Finally, to give the snowman more details and accessories I added my old hockey stick. This snowman playing hockey can be used for simple decoration during the winter time. It can be used by any person living in the snow that enjoys the sport of hockey. It is good as a decoration because anyone that has the materials available can make it on their own with no problems.
