Since I was sick during our snow day weekend, I wasn't able to go outside and actually build something in the snow before it all melted. Instead, I used my drawing tablet to create what I would have built.
I knew I wanted to build a bridge for this project, but I wasn't sure how to go about doing so without it caving in in the middle. With a little help from the world wide web, I discovered how to build keystone bridges, with a single block at the center of the arch being supported by the surrounding blocks. Above is a simple drawing of what the bridge would have looked like, had it been built out of blocks of snow. The bases of the bridge would have been formed first, then a round semi-circle shaped object such as a bowl would have been placed between them. Each block that would form the arch would be placed on the bowl, and the final block, the keystone, would lock them in place. The spaces between the blocks would be packed with snow to ensure that it did not collapse upon removing the semi-circle. This bridge, provided that the snow is packed in tightly, leaving no spaces between the blocks, should ideally be able to support the weight of one person.
