Old People and Technology
It is no surprise to hear that older adults don't like technology. Whether they just don't know how to use it or they don't like the idea. One of the two leads them to the disapproval of technology. A pilot program that started last year has been researching the compatibility of older people and the Amazon Echo. The idea of this newly built friendship and bond is proven to be efficient at being a good companion and keeping older people from isolation. As it is a difficult concept for them to grasp, from the study they seem to be catching on quick.
According to the study, the residents that were introduced to Alexa were pretty comfortable with her. She was used by 75% of the residents daily and the majority said that Alexa made them feel more connected to their family, friends, and community. Soon the project was taken to the next step, instead of using Alexa in the nursing home. They were used in homes of elderly people. After some training sessions and examples, they started to control the lights and house with their newly set up the smart houses. Thankfully we can find ways to include the minority that everybody faces at some point in their life.
