Noise Pollution Reduction

What is it?

A technological university in Singapore has developed a noise cancelling device that can be attached to windows and greatly reduce noise pollution in the buildings, even if the windows are open. The device would be placed on the edges of the windows so that they would be able to open, and the devices would allow up to fifty percent noise reduction from the pollution coming from the cities.

How it Works and Why it's Needed

The noise cancelling device houses active noise control technology such as DJ booths and Beats wireless headphones. The device is not yet fully functional, but at the current stage it uses 8 watts of power in total, and the units are placed together to make the noise cancelling even. The device emits the same frequency noise as detected and bounces it back in real time as it is detected. The benefits of the device would be that windows can be left open for fresh air without disturbance from external noise pollution, and the device reduces the need for air conditioning to keep the interiors of buildings and homes cool.
