When designing a decorative votive candle holder made completely from ice, snow, and other natural materials I knew exactly what I was going to do. To construct the kind of candle holder that the given customer desired I used the following materials: A circular tupperware container, water, pennies, and a glass tea light container. I filled the glass tea light container with pennies and filled the circular tupperware container with an inch of water. Once I placed the penny filled glass tea light container in the water filled tupperware container, the pennies weighed down the tea light container to make a circular space in the middle of the water. Finally I placed everything into my freezer and waited one hour. I then took out the frozen contraption and removed the glass tea light container from the center of the circular froze ice fixture. Once everything was removed from the tupperware an ice candle holder was created.
The candle holder made completely from ice meets the criteria because it is able to safely hold a small candle, along with being shaped cup-like. The flame of the candle is within the shell of it's new holder and I only let the candle holder freeze for 1 hour so it would not freeze completely. This caused only a think layer of the circular holder to be ice, so the flame could be view through the ice. The decorative features frozen into the shell are the ice crystals, they give a holiday/fancy vibe and provide an extra glow of the protected flame.
