Winter Shelter

Winter Shelter

Location: I went into the woods in my backyard to construct my winter shelter. I started by finding a good place to build. Ideally, the spot would have been completely flat. However, I was stuck building partially on a rock. This rock only took up about 1/3 of the space I was using so there was still plenty of room to comfortably fit one person, and tightly fit two people. The location that I chose was good because there were two trees next to each other and a smaller pine tree nearby. I used these nearby trees for support and to keep a sturdy structure to the shelter.
Construction: I began by leaning larger branches up against the trees, packing snow around the bases of these branches to keep them in place. Once I had placed quite a few branches up along the tree, I went on the fill in smaller sticks and leaves horizontally across the large branches. After putting a lot of these "filler" materials until there were no longer holes in the walls of the shelter, I took some firewood and placed it along the base of each wall for support. Finally, I took firewood and built up a wall in between two trees to finish off the final wall.

This fort will be sufficient enough for human life in all conditions. It is completely covered to protect against any form of precipitation. Also there are plenty of pine needles to provide some warmth in the cold. This winter shelter protects those inside from the elements and the cold, providing for a shelter sufficient enough for human life and dry conditions.
