Winter Shelter

Shelter

Winter Shelter-Jake Donahue

Right Wall
Left Wall
I went into a wooded area near my house to start the project and found quite a few possible areas to set up the shelter, but most of them had too man thorns and brush to set up a camp, but I finally found a spot where there was a large tree within 5 feet of a thinner tree that I could use to set up the tarp. I then strung a 5x5 tarp over the top of the trees, wedging sticks into the branches of the tree to support the roof. Then using the other 5x5 tarp I again tied the tarps together by wedging sticks across the holes and around the sticks supporting the ends of the tarp. For the left wall of the shelter I used a rotted stump and some brush, and for the right wall I used a discarded pine tree. To conceal any other holes in the shelter I used broken pine branches, leaves, brush, and bark. The ends of the tarp are weighed down with sticks and rocks to stop air from coming in. Both sides of the roof are also slanted so that any water does not collect and weigh the structure down. The opening of the shelter also allows for a fire to be lit, to ward off unwanted animals and supply more warmth to the shelter.
