Construction
To build this winter shelter, I went to a local park so I would have a lot of natural materials to build with. I brought along a plastic tarp about 10' X 10', and found a good place to start building. I found a place where a tree had fallen over and was at an angle that would serve as the structure for the roof and be easy to build upon. I started to build the shelter by throwing the tarp over the tree trunk.
By pulling the tarp down on both sides of the tree, I was able to form the walls of the shelter. I then started to find and gather a lot of tree branches to help with the construction. With these branches, I began to prop up the tarp from the inside to create more structured walls. I also used many branches on the outside of the shelter to hold the tarp down against any wind and help to weather-proof it.
I then started to create a "door" to the shelter, so it could provide warmth and more protection from the weather. I did this by using the tarp from the right wall and pulling it over to the left wall, and propping it on some tree branches.
Description
This winter shelter that I built holds one person comfortably, but can hold up to two people if squeezed. The shelter is not tall enough to stand up in, but allows enough room to sit and lay down in. This shelter is protected against the weather by providing warmth and protection from snow, rain, wind, etc. The inside is dry and there is a door to the shelter that is easy to open and close. This shelter is located in the woods and blends into its surroundings pretty well.
