Origami Robot

What is the Origami Robot?
The origami robot has a building-shaped design and is capable of grasping delicate objects with ease, without applying any pressure, or damaging the object.
Creation and Function
This robot was created by a mechanical engineer at CWRU, Kiju Lee. The original design was created by a Japanese artist, Mihoko Tachibana. The design is a series of softly constructed, 3-D printed shapes that form a tower. The original robot design was constructed out of strictly paper, to create the concepts of how the robot would twist and turn. Later in the process the 3-D shapes were made giving the robot the softer feel. The current design houses a two-pronged grabber that has been tested on an assortment of delicate fruits that were all handled without damage.
If successful the origami robot could help perform surgeries and be a major advancement in the medical field.
Like all soft robots, this kind of device could offer a safer alternative to its hard-bodied...
